Canopy for Kids initiative builds resilience in schools across Phoenix

This article showcases our partnership with Watershed Management Group and Arizona State University’s Canopy for Kids program, which brings hands-on urban forestry, tree planting, and green stormwater infrastructure education to schools across the Phoenix area. Featuring this resource on our website would help elevate the program and provide visitors with meaningful insight into the work being done to engage youth in climate resilience and environmental stewardship. The Storm Smart Schools program, a collaboration between the Sustainability Teachers Academy and the Watershed Management Group, is featured in this report for its efforts to incorporate rainwater harvesting and native landscaping into school curricula across the Phoenix area.

Created in 2023 through generous funding from the Lemelson Foundation, this guide explores efforts made to institutionalize the Engineering for One Planet framework at ASU. It provides a guide for developing similar fellowships across other universities.
